looking for an autism assessment with a difference and without a waiting list?
organise an assessment session at say hooray!
Now at Say Hooray, you can receive a single Autism assessment without the long waiting list. No referral is necessary, just give us a call to book an appointment!
Please note that this is a single assessment and in order for the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum to be confirmed, the input of professionals from two different disciplines is required (aside from a Speech Pathologist, either a Paediatrician, Psychologist or Psychiatrist).
What will the assessment look like?
The assessment will be held across three sessions:
- Session 1 (1 hour): consists of an interview with you as a parent/caregiver where your Speech Pathologist will ask you questions about your child’s current behaviour as well as their history. Your child does not need to be present for this session.
- Session 2 (1 hour): the Speech Pathologist will engage in a play session with your child and interact with them socially.
An assistant Speech Pathologist will be present during Sessions 1 and 2.
- Session 3 (30 minutes): this is a feedback session where the Speech Pathologist will explain their findings to you and provide you with information about what you can do next. Ask all the questions you like!
Following these three sessions, you will receive a comprehensive, strengths-focused report which outlines the findings of the assessment, the Speech Pathologist’s interpretation and recommendations.
How much does it cost and can I get it cheaper?
The total cost for the assessment is $849. This includes all three sessions and the written report. Possible discounted options include:
Medicare rebate: this may be available if a ‘Helping Children with Autism’ referral is provided by a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician.
Private Health: rebates depend on the individual health fund, please contact yours to find out whether cover exists for assessments.
What makes Say Hooray different?
We understand that an assessment such as this can be a nerve-wracking and stressful time. At Say Hooray, we do everything we can to make the experience as positive as possible for both you and your child. We adopt a strengths-focused approach which means that, even if the diagnosis made is affirmative, we focus not on labelling your child and pointing out all of their difficulties, but on identifying their strengths and how these can be built on to support them to reach their full potential.
Session 2 with your child will be play-based and it is always our goal, both in assessment and therapy, to ensure the children are having fun and leave the practice with a bounce in their step.
